Hard disk stores all your files that you had put in your computer. If your hard disk doesn’t work, then it can be obviously substituted. However, the point is—what about the files stored in your system! We understand that it could be a huge loss, if files go inaccessible. Do not give up and decide on throwing it out, as there are few ways that you can try to recover your files before throwing it out. Here is what you can try.

Cool down the hard disk and clean it!

Turn down your system immediately and unplug it from the power socket. Once it is done, you need to locate the hard disk and let it cool down, by every possible means that are available. If it is a desktop, remove the side panel of the desktop and locate the hard disk. Place a fan in the direction of the hard disk, so that it can cool down faster. In case of a laptop, it becomes little difficult, but you can turn the laptop and let it cool down.

Once it cools down, you need to clean it as there may be clogging of dust on the hard disk. At times, the hard disk may stop working because of the accumulation of dust on the conductors. So, it is always better to clean the hard disk by blowing compressed air from a can. Almost all the chips on the hard disk should be cleaned. However, do not make a mistake of using liquid
cleaners, as it may damage the hard disk permanently.    Now, turn on your system and see whether it has got back to the normal state or not.

Make use of your hard disk as a slave drive

to recover the files. Do remember a fact that using your hard disk as slave drive will not let it have an operating system and use any Windows tools either. You can make it a slave drive, just by changing the pin settings of it and sliding it onto the slot that indicates the mark of a slave
drive. Now, you can boot your computer and recover the files from the slave drive nad copy them to the primary drive or master drive.

Re-install operating system

If you’re not able to access the hard disk, the reason could be two—either, it has lost its format or it has broken. In case it has lost its format, you can re-install the operating system, which will copy the user files and the hard disk will be formatted again.

If this method also doesn’t work, then it should be understood that this hard disk can’t be used
anymore.
