What have you stored in your computer? Let me guess—it should include all your memorable pictures of a family tour, important files, your bank account details or any other important information. What if you lose all these files because of a disaster? You cannot even think of the loss that you may have to suffer, both mentally and financially.
Why don’t you get into the practice of taking periodic backups! You may think that backing up files is a long process, which needs your attention throughout the process. Do not accuse yourself of this wrong notion! I will tell you the simple process of automating the backup of your system, without putting much effort onto it.
You can take local backups of your system. All that you need to have is a network drive or a USB flash drive. Depending upon the hard drive capacity, you have to go for your backup drive. Make sure of a point that your backup drive should be 1.5 times of the capacity of the hard drive of your system.
I will be discussing the backup setup process of the latest Windows operating systems viz. Windows 7 & Windows 8. So, here we go!
Backup Windows 7 system
You need to set up ‘Windows Backup’ to start the process. Start with clicking the ‘Start’ button and locate the search box to type in ‘backup’. Select ‘Backup & Restore’. Choose the destination drive, where you need to backup your data. You can also set the time and the number of times that you need to backup in a day. Using Windows Desktop menu, you can take an exact mirror image of your files.
Backup Windows 8 system
‘File History’ is the feature that lets you backup the Windows 8 system. It has a feature of backing up files, on hourly basis. This is helpful, even if you delete any of your files accidentally. Also, if you want to restore the files from a particular point, you can do so by making use of ‘File History’.
To access File History, you need to reach the Control Panel or you can find it from the Home screen of your system. Run this menu and select the drive for backup, from the menu. You can select the files or folders that you want to take backup of.
For restoring the backup in both Windows 7 and Windows 8, you need to launch the backup programs and navigate through the files or folders that you’re looking for.
