- Open up the command prompt from the Run dialog box and type “diskmgmt.msc” followed by pressing ‘Enter’ key.
- You will be able to see a graphical interface and you need to right click on any unallocated area. Choose ‘New Simple Volume’ from the context menu.
- Now, the New Simple Volume Wizard will begin and you need to read the Welcome page before clicking upon the ‘Next’ button.
- Specify the minimum or maximum volume that you need to assign the new drive.
- Assign a letter as the name of the drive and click on ‘Next’.
- Choose the File System to be NTFS, as that is the prevalent and most commonly used file system.
- Choose the ‘next’ button followed by choosing the ‘finish’ button.
